Ph.D., Elliot Professor of Modern Languages at Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia
DIRK R. JOHNSON received his BA from Bowdoin College in 1985 and his Magister in political science, philosophy, and German from the University of Bonn in 1989. He received his Ph.D. in German Studies from Indiana University in 2000. His monograph Nietzsche’s Anti-Darwinism was published by Cambridge University Press in 2010, and his piece on Zarathustra, “Zarathustra: Nietzsche’s Rendezvous with Eternity,” appeared in The New Cambridge Companion to Nietzsche. His articles on Nietzsche, Darwin, and Darwinism have appeared in Nietzsche-Studien, Rivista di filosofia, Journal of Nietzsche Studies, and Tijdschrift voor filosofie. He is currently working on a project detailing Nietzsche’s relation to the sciences. Johnson is Elliott Professor of German at Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia.
